The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith

The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith introduces us to Cormoran Strike, who was a military police investigator until he was injured in Afghanistan.  He has just broken up with his fiance and the his new foray into the opening of his own detective agency isn't going so swell.  Both Cormoran and the agency are on their last leg.

Robin Ellacott is new in town.  She has recently become engaged to Matthew and is temping while seeking permanent employment.  The temp agency has assigned her to work at Cormoran's agency for the day.  Robin has secretly harbored fantasies of working as a private investigator, and much to her fiance's chagrin, she is very intrigued by this temporary assignment.

When C.S. is hired to find out what really happened to supermodel, Lula Landry, whose death was ruled a suicide, the fun begins.  Detective Strike is plunged into the world of the rich and famous while battling his own personal tragedies.  Robin proves to be an invaluable assistant that Strike really can't afford.

I really enjoyed this debut in the Cormoran Strike series and look forward to reading more.  Strike and Robin are both very likable characters and make a good team.  The story was fast-paced and I didn't guess the ending which does tend to happen to me when reading a detective mystery.  On to book 2....
